Resting between runs at BNSF Railways North Yard in Saginaw, Texas, is engine 599. This is the only former Santa Fe Dash 9-44CW that did not retain its original number (such as ATSF 600 becoming BNSF 600), due to the fact that its former number on the Santa Fe was 666. Reportedly, many crews would not take a train with this engine in the consist, and so the BNSF renumbered it into the empty number below the class unit. So, no longer "the beast," perhaps it should now be called the "reformed beast"... |
