One of the Pacific Harbor Lines two 3GS21C genset locomotives brings a cut of baretables (empty well cars) northward (railroad "east") across the Badger Bridge and off of Terminal Island. With all the containers moving by rail and by highway in the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, as well as various marine vessels, this lift bridge and the adjacent Ford lift bridge (for highway traffic) are a busy place, as the spans are lifted and lowered with great regularity, holding up highway traffic and, at times, rail traffic. While owned and operated by PHL, these tracks also see a steady flow of BNSF Railway and Union Pacific trains as well. [Photo taken on railroad property with permission.] |
