The Local
Augusta-Port Royal Local crosses the A Line at Yemassee, SC enroute to Beaufort and Port Royal. It will set off Cars before heading east. Much has changed in this Picture since 1984. The line to port Royal, as well as the diamonds and the Track on the far left are gone. The Station is still there, but closed. The Local still operates east from Augusta but runs up the A line now to Charleston.

Jonathan Vincent General First, let me say that I really enjoyed looking at this set of pictures, I love the pre-CSX stuff. What I want to know is, why doesn't that covered hopper in front of the caboose have a road number or reporting marks? 8/31/2011 8:50:55 AM
Eugene Cain General I have no clue!!!!! 8/31/2011 3:41:08 PM
Bernie Feltman General I wonder if the Royal Port line was former SAL track 9/3/2011 9:41:54 AM
Eugene Cain General The Port Royal Sub was as follows...built origionally as the Port Royal Railroad of 1871...came under the control of the Central of Georgia for a time...reorganized eventually to become the Charleston and Western Carolina Railroad. Came under ACL control in the 1950s, became SCL in 1967....and survived into the 1980 merger of CSX. Sold in 1985 to the SC Ports Authority. (Port closed in 2003) Track removed late in 2010. The Station has been totally rebuilt as of September 2011 9/13/2011 3:07:01 AM
