Climbing up Sneads Hill
Loaded Coal Train led by SCL 2011 has come off the Savannah River Trestle and is beginning the climb up Sneads Hill near Evans, Georgia on the Spartanburg Sub. These heavy Coal Trains oftened stalled and had to be broken into sections to get over the hill. Each section would proceed to the siding at Martinez, several miles away. Me and my friend camped out right here many times and saw the action. This Picture was among the first Photos I took. Sorry for the poor quality, as it was taken with a cheap 110 Camera.

Geneva Short General Don't apologize! I, for one, am glad to see it - the details you wrote make it an even better find. The photographs are always more interesting (to me, at least) when there's a story to go with them. 8/30/2011 4:07:59 PM
Eugene Cain General It was very quiet out there at night. When a train was approaching from the north, you would hear the Dynamic Brakes first. The whine would turn into the familiar sound of EMD Diesels. We could also see the "Mars Lights" off in the distance before ever hearing the train approaching!!! It was very dark out there as well, perfect for "Star Gazing" while waiting on a Train!!! 8/31/2011 4:42:01 AM
J Thompson General Sneads Hill, this place has claimed many a knuckle. Thanks for sharing. 10/15/2011 5:22:20 PM
Eugene Cain General Often referred to as "Steel City" Indeed, many Knuckles found their way into the ditches along the track here. I have seen quite a few here!!! 5/29/2012 4:52:16 PM
