A washout caused a major derailment on BNSF's northern transcon at approximately 7:30 am on July 16, 2011. The resulting derailment destroyed 17 covered hoppers loaded with corn, this locomotive (trailing locomotive) and the bridge just out of frame to the left. Fortunately, the crew only had minor injuries despite their locomotive tipping on its side. Finally, at approximately 7:30 pm July 17, Hulcher crews managed to lift up the trailing locomotive (which fell into the swollen creek below) and work to put it back on rails. |
