MILW E9 35A
The Milwaukee Road E9 35A at the Saint Paul Union Depot (SPUD) on February 5, 1966, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The appearance of Milwaukee Road at SPUD was unusual, since the Milwaukee had its own depot in Saint Paul. See Comment below by P. Nelson.

I believe Mr. Zeller has the right idea but he is incorrect about the Milwaukee at SPUD. I traveled from Winona to Minneapolis on the Milwaukee many times when I was younger and we always went through SPUD. At one time my cousin was working on the dining car of the Empire Builder and they pulled in on the platform across from us making for an interesting meeting. Minneapolis on the other hand had the railroads that later made up the Burlington Northern which stopped at the Great Northern Railway station at 2 Hennepin Avenue while the Milwaukee, Soo and another line stopped at the Milwaukee Road depot that flanked Washington Avenue.

Mr. Nelson, thank you, I appreciate the comment. This was the one and only time I was at SPUD, so I could only speculate on the activity I saw. A couple of friends and I rode a train up from Chicago, photographed train activity, then caught another train back home.
