Two Amtrak anniversary engines in one place! Amtrak P42 145, the first of several engines painted in "retro" schemes to celebrate the passenger carriers 40th anniversary in 2011, has just arrived in Los Angeles on its first trip to the west (on train #1, the "Sunset Limited"). On the adjacent "escape" track sits Amtrak F59PHI 457, wearing a special scheme to commemorate the "Pacific Surfliner" services 10th anniversary in 2010. Note only is this an unusual view of the 457s rear, but also note the damage to the pilot on 145, the result of a grade crossing accident in San Antonio the previous day. |
