Amtrak F40PH 224 at San Diego, California on February 11, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This is the second depot built by the Santa Fe in San Diego. This one was built between 1914-15 at a cost of $300,000.00, designed by the San Francisco firm of Bakewell and Brown. By 1971 the entrance patio was demolished for a parking lot and there was talk by the AT&SF of tearing down the depot. Community opposition stopped this move, and the structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Note the AT&SF cross logo in the dome. |
