This is an RRE "'round the mountains" special out of Boston. The 606 is a head-end helper to help the two B&M E7s up thru Crawford Notch. Circa 1949 I'd guess.

Under close inspection, I believe that diesel set is an A-B-B-A of F7's. Although MEC had E7's I don't think they would put them on an excursion consist. In fact, those could very well be FT's.
