Hi, saw this pic and had to post. I was a Santa Fe fireman on the L.A. coast lines in 1959 and ran this engine on the Los Angeles 1st street switch yards in L.A. It was the early 600hp version and they had one other there. It was very smooth running and riding loco, as smooth as a passenger car, but was a little low on power. The 1000hp turbocharged later models were much better pullers. The engines were 6 cyl. Mackintosh Seymor engines from Canada. They had poor loco brakes [shoes only on inside of the wheels, and as a result we had to use more pressure resulting in flattening wheels, thus they would get oval shaped and you make the loco wobble down the track. They were a smooth ride but not the engineers favorite to run.
