Amtrak E9 405 at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois, during November 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 405 was built in February 1956 as Milwaukee Road E9 200A (c/n 21601) on EMD Order 2075, was renumbered to 30A soon after delivery, sold to Amtrak in 1971, becoming AMTK 405. It was built to Union Pacific specifications for use on UP's "City" trains, which changed from the C&NW to the Milwaukee Road on October 30, 1955 for the trip between Omaha and Chicago. |
