Railway Service Contractors (MJRX) B30-7 849, seen here in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 17, 2010, rolled out of General Electrics Erie (PA) factory in March 1979 as Southern Pacific 7849. After the Union Pacific absorbed the SP, 7849 was retired on 12/26/01. In July 2002 the UP sold this engine to G&I Leasing (Nampa, ID), who resold it to Dakota Southern (who renumbered it 849), which subsequently unloaded it to Railway Service Contractors on a date unknown. Curiously, SP 7849 does not show up on any lists as having been repainted in the ill-fated SPSF "Kodachrome" scheme. |
