Chicago and North Western Railway F3 210 at Des Moines, Iowa on February 19, 1981, photo by Ken Kessler, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 210 was built in March 1948 as CGW F3 112A (c/n 5014) on EMD Order E858, was acquired by the C&NW in the 1968 merger, was C&NW 112A until 1971 when it was renumbered to (2nd) 210, retired in June 1985, traded to EMD and scrapped by Saint Louis Auto Shredding. It was built by EMD with D27B traction motors, heavier cables, and higher capacity traction motor blowers, but was otherwise an F3. Some sources refer to this as an F5, however EMD never cataloged a model F5. |
