When the Illinois Railway Museum received the remaining 11 locomotives of the Northwestern Steel & Wire Company it came with a three-week deadline to move everything out or it would go in the furnace. Two of the engines that could not be moved by rail, were stripped of everything usable before being scrapped. This cab was retained from former GTW #8310, a 1924 product of the American Locomotive Company, in the hope that it would one-day become an attractive exhibit. See IRM’s Rail & Wire Magazine #105 January 1982 for more details on the move to Galt, IL. It is available through the museum’s web page. |
