BNSF SD40-2R 7950
BNSF SD40-2R 7950 at Springfield, Missouri on July 23, 2010, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built during May 1972 as AT&SF SD45-2 5631 (c/n 7391-7). It was rebuilt by the AT&SF at San Bernardino to SD45-2u 5835 during September 1986, becoming BNSF 6485 January 27, 2000. Sometime around 2008 it was rebuilt to SD40-2R, the 20 cylinder block was replaced with a 16 cylinder block and the radiators (and fans) have been changed to SD40-2 style. One source states it will eventually be renumbered to 1565. This is my first digital locomotive photo posted. I had taken my gal to Springfield (we live in Arkansas) for dental work, and while she was there, I escaped and went looking for trains. This is all I found in the allotted time, and even then I had to scamper up a concrete wall at an abandon grain elevator and hold the camera over my head to get this shot before this train moved. A shot of this train moving through the grain elevator complex would have been better, but there were chain link fences with barbed wire on top guarding the right-of-way. It took me all day to get one train picture, geez I'm getting old.
