CSX GP40-3 6564 in fresh paint is on Y-101 in Ridgefield Park, NJ 10/31/2024. Note that CSX blanked out the rear number boards. The Y-101 had a rather large cut of cars to drop onto the NYSW. CSX 6564 was rebuilt from CSXT 6485, Ex C&O 4373. Another change to the GP40-3 rebuild program is that CSX is no longer replacing the EMD Spartan Cab for the "SpongeBob SquareCabs" Instead that Spartan Cab is retained, but the headlight is being relocated to the nose as the locomotive was originally built with a high headlight as did all locomotives delivered to Chessie, no matter who was the owner (B&O, C&O, and WM) I dont know if the cabs and short hoods are new or if CSX is taking low noses from former Seaboard System (SCL, L&N, and some Clinchfield) locomotives. I doubt there are any A&WP, Georgia Railroad or Western Railway of Alabama Locomotives left on the property and I dont know if Family Lines or Seaboard System ever bothered to relocate the high headlights of any predesessor railroads to the nose. Some Seaboard System SD50s were delivered with high headlights, probably in anticipation with SBD and Chessie becoming a single railroad. |
