The Southern Railway's New Orleans work train was on the main line at Slidell, rerailing cars which had derailed on the BACK TRACK just north of the depot. The derailed cars had been on northbound local No. 58. The 903006 was a 150-ton crane built by Bucyrus as Southern D-66 (serial number 251) in March 1919. When photographed here, it had been recently converted to diesel power. Norfolk Southern subsequently donated it to the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer. (date approximate) |
