BNSF X-CPSGFD1-27 vs. Vandals
Northbound empty BNSF grain trian X-CPSGFD1-27 (BNSF 4403, BNSF 6882, NREX 5073) took siding at Birds, TX on the Fort Worth Subdivision for a meet. While stopped at Birds for the meet, vandal(s) placed a truck tire and rim under a wheel on empty grain car FURX 830795. This was the 37th car on the train. Upon departure this wheel got lodged in the 3442 switch at Lipscomb Street, derailing a set of wheels on the car. The FURX 830795 remained upright for 1400 feet. The derailed wheelset then struck the frog on the East Siding Switch at Birds causing the car to turn on it's side and come to rest in the middle of the Hemphill Street grade crossing. This series of photographs documents the aftermath of this incident.
