Burlington Northern Railroad SD40 6335 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as C&S SD40 875 in October 1967 (c/n 33516) on EMD Order 7073, it was delivered in the Burlington's Chinese Red and gray paint scheme. Sometime after the March 2, 1970 merger, it traded the red/gray for BN' Cascade Green and black paint, and was sub-lettered C&S above the numberboards and below the BN logo on the cab, still numbered 875. Note that the trailing SD40-2 7840 still displays the C&S initials above the numberboards. Number slots for the C&S/FW&D locomotives were finalized during July 1979 and the C&S initials began disappearing around September 1979. This locomotive was retired from the BN in October 1987, eventually becoming MRL 216 and later IMRL 216. |
