Burlington Northern Railroad SD9 6192 at Clyde, Illinois on an unknown day in July 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in September 1957 as CB&Q SD9s 445 (c/n 23624) on EMD Order 5549, it became BN 6192 and eventually BNSF 6192. The lower case "s" in the CB&Q model designation (SD9s) indicates a Single control stand, unusual for the CB&Q, which generally had the road switchers equipped with dual control stands. Only four months before this photo date, this locomotive had a high short hood and the CB&Q Mars light. I will speculate that this might be a wreck repair, the BN was rather frugal and generally did not chop hoods unless absolutely necessary. |
