This plaque sits by the parking lot of the Pass and Tag office at the main gate for NAS Patuxent River MD. It marks the ROW of the former Navy railroad that ran from the NAS about 20 miles north to the PRR near Hughesville. The plaque has a few inaccuracies; the route was sold by the Navy in 1956 and a portion may have initially been operated by the Pennsy and perhaps the PC later. The operation was featured in the March 1953 issue of Trains Magazine; it was using a pair of Baldwin S12s and a Whitcomb 45 tonner for power at that time. |
