CGW must of had some trouble with the EMD 'knuckle-buster' door latches. Most James images show CGW locomotives with open engine room doors. Of course, these units didn't have the pressurized engine compartment, so it really didn't matter much.

Edit: The above post should read "Most OF James images..." After looking over this image again, it's apparent that these locomotives were not equipped with the so-called 'knuckle-buster' type of door latch. Maybe CGW crews left the doors open to keep the engine rooms cooler than was possible via the louvers/shutters.
