Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E7 9930A eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on June 22, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in September 1947 (c/n 4499) on EMD Order E792A for a total of 11 E7's on this order, it became BN 9930 after March 2, 1970 and was traded to EMD for an order of SD45's on September 2, 1970. This unit was equipped with two Vapor Clarkson CFK 4225 steam generators mounted side by side at the rear of the unit, the exhaust stack of one can be seen as the rectangular shape on the roof. Beginning with units 9925A and B, this became the standard on CB&Q passenger power. It is seen here with an eastbound Dinky (commuter train) in tow, with the power car on the east end of the train. Usually, the power cars were at the west end of all the Dinkys. |
