I remember inspecting these formlorn hulks trying to determine what the best NYC units were. Eventually this one and the 4320 (NYC4068) went to Albany NY. With me on this trip was Harold Crouch, long time NC employee in the Mechanical Dept. He is an expert on all things mechanical and he marveled at some of things still in great shape on these engines turned out literally to pasture. Harold's in his 90s now in 2008 and still doing well and building live steamers for fun.

Nearly all of these old hulks were sold for scrap, I'll bet. E8A #4321 sure looks ready to go!

The New York Central 4070, pictured here as NJ Transit 4321 was purchased and sent to Albany New York along with NJ Transit 4320 which was the New York Central 4068. The 4068 went on to live renewed life and is now in a museum. However the 4321 AKA NYC 4070 was too far gone the prime movers were seized and couldn't be freed so she now sits in Bellevue Ohio a derelict.
