This caboose was actually of SAL heritage - later SCL, was originally still in SCL colors when put on display at Washington, but since repainted to represent an ACL caboose with the number 1776 choosen for patriotic reasons.

Larry Platt General This caboose never served on the SAL. Built by the SEABOARD COAST LINE RAILROAD toward the end of M-5 production. Road number is SCL 0797. Many of the M-5s built used old SAL trucks. 12/7/2008 1:00:00 AM
