Erie-Lackawanna EMD SD-45-2 3677
The 3677 is a one of a kind unit. Due to falling revenues, the E-L decided to sell advertising on it's locomotives. The 3677 was soon fitted out with a billboard on it's roof. The Winston cigarette ad was the first attempt at this new and at the time, revolutionary idea. Alas, the whole idea was scrapped after the first run. The unit was now too tall to fit thru the Otisville Tunnel. Soon after, the E-L was forced into bankruptcy and into Conrail.

Fred Stuckmann General To quote Steve Martin, you are "a wild and crazy guy". Everybody knows that the EL had the best hi-wide clearances in the east. No way that sign came off in that tunnel. lol. 3/30/2009 8:07:59 PM
Dave Korhammer General 'You sure this photo wasn't from April 1st?!.... Besides, I thought only Alcos were smoky! :) 4/11/2015 3:29:18 PM
Robert Anderson General We have all seen different types of "smoke " defectors-lifters. Of course this one would have been much more effective on an ALCO/GE. Especially in the CGW Winston Tunnel. 10/1/2018 11:24:54 PM
