Title: |
SLRG #9172 |
Description: |
Built in 1926 by Pullman in Lot #4974 to Plan #3523A as 6C-3DR sleeper GLEN SUMMIT, 1 of 20 such cars built in that Lot, all for the general service pool. Between August and November 1931, 8 of these 20 cars were changed to Plan #3523F, including the GLEN SUMMIT. Of these 20 cars, only 5 were sold at the 12/31/1948 divestiture to the railroads: GLEN TORRIDON to L&N; GLEN MORISTON and GLEN TARSAN to SP as #8457 and #8459; and GLEN STRAE and GLEN SUMMIT to SOU as #2522 and #2523. The other 15 cars were retained by Pullman until sold to private ownership (the GLEN SADDELL) or otherwise scrapped. GLEN SUMMIT later went to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, then to Mid-America Locomotive & Car Repair in Evansville, IN, and was acquired circa 2012 by Iowa Pacific. The GLEN SUMMIT is 1 of 2 surviving cars from Lot #4974; the other car is the previously mentioned GLEN SADDELL, sold in 1967 to Ruben Darby, later to the Adirondack RY Co./Adirondack Scenic, then to Remsen Development Corp. Iowa Pacific is currently in negotiations with Remsen to acquire the GLEN SADDELL. EXIF: 2:52 PM, f/4.4 @ 1/250, ISO-100 |
