ACL BIRMINGHAM
Title:  ACL BIRMINGHAM
Description:  Built in 1950 by P-S in Lot #6808 to Plan #7592 as ACL 36 seat diner BIRMINGHAM, 1 of 13 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in June 1946; cars were delivered between February and May 1950. 10 of the cars were owned by ACL, 2 of the cars were owned by FEC with FORT-series names, and 1 car was owned by RF&P (the HENRICO). Besides the CORDELE which was wrecked in 1959, the 9 remaining ACL cars were renumbered as SCL #5950-#5958, the BIRMINGHAM as #5951. The 2 FEC cars were sold in 1965 to SAL as #6119-#6120 and were renumbered to SCL #5959-#5960. In 1971, Amtrak acquired the remaining 9 ex-ACL cars as #8080-#8088, the #5951 as #8081. The 2 ex-FEC cars were also acquired, as #8089-#8090. ACL ordered an additional diner in April 1956, which was built in Lot #6984 to Plan #DP-1-20056 and was delivered in April 1957 as an uncompleted shell; ACL completed the car at the Rocky Mount shops in 1959 as the NAPLES, which was later SCL #5961 and then Amtrak #8091. The #8081 BIRMINGHAM was retired in November 1977 and sold in 1978 to private ownership for use as an ice cream parlor in Lansing, IL. EXIF: 4:20 PM, f/2.7 @ 1/350
