AMTK 2883
Title:  AMTK 2883
Description:  Amtrak 2883, named PACIFIC RANGE, at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on July 26, 1983, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 2883 was buiot by Budd in 1950 as UP 1434, PACIFIC RANGE, became AMTK 2627 and upon conversion to HEP in July 1979 was renumbered to 2883. Also of interest, perhaps only to me, is thj upside-down Purolator Armored truck in the background by the red crane, showing evidence of gunshots to the windows.

#800698 PACIFIC SUNSET
Title:  #800698 PACIFIC SUNSET
Description:  Built in 1950 by Budd in Lot #9660-039 to Plan #9522 as UP 10RM-6DB sleeper PACIFIC RANGE, 1 of 50 PACIFIC-series cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in February 1948; cars were delivered between December 1949 and June 1950. Besides PACIFIC EMPIRE, which was wrecked in 1951, the other 49 cars were assigned #14xx-series numbers in 1969, the PACIFIC RANGE was assigned #1434, which was applied in October 1969. 5 cars were sold to the Milwaukee Road in 1969, 1 car was retained by UP, and the other 43 cars were sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #2600-#2642, PACIFIC RANGE as #2627. Besides 3 which were wrecked during Amtraks first decade, the remaining 40 cars were converted to HEP in 3 batches, the 2nd group of 15 cars were converted in 1979-1980, including PACIFIC RANGE, which was converted to HEP #2883 in July 1979. 1 of the 3 cars wrecked during the first decade was #1443/#2636 PACIFIC SUNSET (1st), and as a result, when #1434/#2627 was converted to HEP #2883, the name was changed from PACIFIC RANGE to PACIFIC SUNSET (2nd). The #2883 was sold in 1995 to private ownership.
