PRR 7715, Motor Car, 1960
Title:  PRR 7715, Motor Car, 1960
Description:  MofW Equipment. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in July of 1960. Shown here are three tank cars (carrying water) and Pennsylvania Railroad Motor Car #7715. They're following the Fairmont "flame thrower," and the Railroader up front is spraying water on any weeds that might still be burning. Note the numerous boxcars and hopper cars which have been marshalled for reconditioning in the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop. Photo taken from the Union Street Bridge.

PRR 9845, Fairmont, 1964
Title:  PRR 9845, Fairmont, 1964
Description:  MofW Equipment. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 8 August 1964. On the left is the Pennsylvania Railroad's Fairmont "Flame Thrower" #9845. This machine has at least two functions, depending upon the season. In the winter, it is used to melt snow and ice that might foul switches. In the summer, it is used to burn track-side weeds. On the right are two tank cars (carrying water) and PRR Motor Car #7715. These would follow the "flame thrower" (pictured at left), and a Railroader would spray water on any still-burning weeds. All are parked adjacent to the PRR's Freight Station on South Juniata Street.
