The CP-KCS merger was complete in April 2023. Some changes were made fairly quickly: trains were resymbolled, and the detector north of town now announces "CPKC detector, milepost 226.5..." But so far, there has been no outward change to rolling stock or other equipment. Ironically, the first example of the new herald would not be on a train, but on a panel truck. I pulled up behind this truck on US 412 in Siloam Springs one afternoon, to note the new herald on the back. Note also, the "Join our team" sign, also lettered CPKC. |

I chased down to Cave Springs, since there was still enough daylight on this first day of standard time. I had beaten the coal train here, despite some slowpokes along the way. I checked the northbound home signal, finding it was showing a restricting indication, and the switch was lined for the siding. Cool, a northbound in the picture. I grabbed a shot of the board, and headed for Bunch, hoping to intercept the northbound there. |

The dispatcher is going to run the lite power through the siding, an easier, and faster move, than having the 125 cars of coal taking both switches at 15 MPh for the entire length of the train. Now that the switch is lined for the lite power move at both ends, the signal displays a medium clear. Hell have a high green at the other end. |
