McGiffert Log Loader
Title:  McGiffert Log Loader
Description:  The size is impressive when you approach the McGiffert log loader. The cab part of the loader is a two story structure with the steam engine on the top level along with the crane controls. It can raise and lower its rail wheels when necessary for moving down the tracks. The log cars then move under it for loading.

Description:  The loader is similar to the modern container car crane used to load and unload containers from railroad flatcars. The exception is this was built around 1900 and used steam as its power source.

Title:  Rare sight
Description:  Not the power, there are still tons of EMD 40s on the UP, and the paint scheme is the same as its been since the 1930s. The unusual thing about this train is its a northbound on the ex MKT. North of Wagoner, he UP uses directional running, since from there to KC, it has both the ex MP via Coffeyville Kan, and the ex MKT via Parsons Kan. It uses the MKT from KC almost exclusively for southbounds, except for this local based in Pryor, OK, 25 miles to the north. I caught it en route to my grandsons football game in nearby Coweta. Football and trains, cant go wrong-and they won!!
