Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Chicago, Illinois, during August of 1967. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6813, an AS-24M road switcher built by the American Locomotive Company as number "8613" in August of 1956, rated at 2,400 horsepower, and renumbered "6813" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. Description:
Here is a photo via Rail Photo Service that was taken in Enola, Pennsylvania. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8612, an AS-24M built by the American Locomotive Company in August of 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. Note the two soon-to-be-extinct steam locomotives "working the Yard" in the upper-right corner of the photo. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. John S. Description:
Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 October 1965. The arrival of the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society's "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" was eclipsed by a really, really long westbound mixed-cargo freight train sporting rear-end pushers. Shown here is PRR engine #8612, an AS-24M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. One of the "Excursion's" passenger cars is partially visible on the left, while Milepost 242 sits on the right.

Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866, #9852-B, and #9860 are EFP-15's built in 1952. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in 1950. They are threading the 14th Street interlocking on their way up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route with a 95-car iron-ore train. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible (L to R) are the Altoona Passenger Station, the 12th Street Bridge, a westbound passenger train about to depart, an eastbound passenger train in the process of departing, and several of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings. Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. Visible behind them is the PRR Test Plant building.
