True Blue Aussie Alco: Pacific National 48-Class 4898
Title:  True Blue Aussie Alco: Pacific National 48-Class 4898
Description:  The 48-class locomotive is considered one of the most important diesels in Australian rail history. Goodwin/Alco built 165 of the type from 1959 to 1970 for New South Wales RR and 45 of the virtually identical 830-class for South Australian RR. The type worked in all varieties of service, but are best known for their work on grain branchlines, where they replaced steam. Roughly 80 of both class remain in service and a small number are being rebuilt in places like Junee for continued duty. PNR 4898, former NSWR 4898, Goodwin/Alco 1966. 900HP Alco model DL-531.

Light Engines at Murrumburrah
Title:  Light Engines at Murrumburrah
Description:  Two "Branchline" units run lfght "down" (westbound) through Murrumburrah NSW. The lead unit, 48164, is in very heavily weathered Pacfic National colors; the trailer, GrainCorp 48201, has received a new paint job at the Junee shops in the near past. These guys were probably working a grain elevator and are now on their way back to the barn in Cootamundra.

Working the Elevator at Cunningar
Title:  Working the Elevator at Cunningar
Description:  Pacific National 48-class unit 48165 loads grain at the elevator at Cunnigar, NSW under darkening skies. This Goodwin/Alco was the last of 165 built in Australia from 1959 through 1970. (it's probably just as well it was cloudy- this would've been right into the afternoon sun if it had been out!)
