Title:  L&N Train No. 10
Description:  Louisville & Nashville train No. 10 had just crossed the New Orleans Terminal Co. (Southern Railway) at N.O.T. Tower on its way out of New Orleans. Here it was negotiating a sharp S-curve on temporary trackage around the construction of an underpass at Franklin Avenue. The 264 was one of 26 K-5 class USRA light Pacifics, and it was the first of eight K-5's (264-271) built by Baldwin in 1923. (approximate day of photo)

L&N Train No. 10
Title:  L&N Train No. 10
Description:  Louisville & Nashville K-5 class 4-6-2 265 was pulling train No. 10 out of Canal Street Station in New Orleans. The 265 was a USRA design light Pacific, and was the second of eight K-5's built by Baldwin in 1923 (264-271). It was retired on 1 February 1954. The track on the right belonged to the Southern Pacific, while the Illinois Central box car in the background was on a New Orleans Public Belt siding at the Bienville Street Wharf. L&N Train No. 34
Title:  L&N Train No. 34
Description:  Louisville & Nashville K-5 class 4-6-2 265 was leading train No. 34 – the combined Piedmont Limited-Gulf Wind – out of Canal Street Station in New Orleans. The Piedmont Limited was bound for New York City via the L&N, West Point Route, Southern Railway, and the Pennsylvania; but between New Orleans and Flomaton, Alabama it included cars for the Gulf Wind. This latter train operated between Flomaton and Chattahochee, Florida as L&N No. 61 and on into Jacksonville as Seaboard Air Line No. 38. The train's third car was a Seaboard coach.

No. 34 left New Orleans at 5:00 P.M. and arrived in New York's Pennsylvania Station – 1,357 miles away – at 6:25 on the second morning out, while the Gulf Wind arrived in Jacksonville – 612 miles – at 9:00 on the first morning. The curved track on the extreme right belonged to the New Orleans Public Belt, the next two tracks were owned by the Southern Pacific, and the track next to No. 34 was the L&N's southbound main line. The 265 was built by Baldwin in 1923 and retired on 1 February 1954. (approximate day of photo)

Title:  L&N 4-6-2 269
Description:  Louisville & Nashville K-5 class 4-6-2 269 was facing north along the Mississippi River at the Bienville Street grade crossing in New Orleans. One the left was the Bienville Street Wharf while on the right was the railroad’s trainshed. The 269 had been built by Baldwin (56129) in January 1923 and was retired on 7 July 1953. Description:  Louisville & Nashville train No. 34, the combined Piedmont for New York and Gulf Wind for Jacksonville, had just gone through the curve from the Mississippi riverfront onto the median of Elysian Fields Avenue and was crossing Decatur Street. The Gulf Wind operated over the Seaboard Air Line west of Chattahochee, Florida and the third car is a Seaboard coach. No. 34 train was being pulled by K-5 class 4-6-2 269. L&N Pacific 269
Title:  L&N Pacific 269
Description:  Preceded by a flagman, Louisville & Nashville K-5 class Pacific 269 was rolling out of the railroad's trainshed and across Canal Street in New Orleans. The loco has just uncoupled from a southbound passenger train and was heading to the roundhouse at Julia Street Yard. The automobiles behind the flagman had just gotten off of a ferry boat from the west side of the Mississippi River, and the walkway above the loco provided pedestrian access to the ferry. The railroad closed Canal Street Station and the Julia Street roundhouse when its passenger trains moved to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in April 1954. (approximate day of photo)

L&N Julia Street Yard
Title:  L&N Julia Street Yard
Description:  This image shows the variety of motive power that could be found at the Louisville & Nashville's Julia Street Yard during the transition from steam to diesel. Pictured here were K-4 Pacific 269 (Baldwin 1923) with commuter train No. 12, J-3 Mikado 1591 (Alco 1923), E7A 792 (EMD 1949), and Alco S1 57 (Alco 1949). The yard was about three blocks south of the railroad’s Canal Street Station, and packed into an area of about four square blocks were a freight yard, coach yard, enginehouse, turntable, freight houses and warehouses. The coach yard was on the extreme right of this photo. (approximate month and day)

Description:  Louisville & Nashville K-5 Pacific 269 was pulling train No. 7 into New Orleans along Ely„jan Fields Avenue. The engine was crossing Royal Street, and the photo was taken from the crossing tower at Dauphine Street. The 269 was built by Baldwin in 1923, and was retired on 7 July 1953. Train numzer 7 was discontinued in September 1953. (approximate day of photo)

Description:  Louisville & Nashville train No. 34, the northbound PIEDMONT, was on its way out of New Orleans, running along the median of Elysian Fields Avenue at North Rampart Street. The train was powered by K-5 class Pacific 271, which had been built by Baldwin in 1923 (56131) and was retired on 31 March 1953.
