This train has just left the station and is rolling for Mill Neck and the end of the trip at Oyster Bay. Taking the curve
Title:  Taking the curve
Description:  After leaving the Main Line, the Oyster Bay branch takes a sharp curve to head north, as this train is doing, about to cross first Willis Av then 2nd St. We see some Mineola landmarks in this shot: Nassau tower, behind the second car, which controls the junction as well as a set of crossovers west of the station; to the tower's left, the power house, now abandoned, for the electrification.

Long hood first
Title:  Long hood first
Description:  While LIRRs C 420s were set up to run long hood forward, the GP 38s were not, and it was unusual to see one running in this configuration, as this one is at Ronkonkoma yard. The signal on the tall pole is the block limit signal for the Main Line at KO.

4012 rolls east
Title:  4012 rolls east
Description:  The mid day weekend Montauk train was 4012. Saturdays train was nothing special, but Sundays moved the parlors that would bring the weekenders home back to Montauk after servicing in Jamaica, and was usually a long train, 12-14 cars, and got a pair of GP 38s. Here it is rolling through the east end of Queens interlocking and past Bellerose station.

One of a few
Title:  One of a few
Description:  A Ronkonkoma train, one of only a few to make the Republic stop, slows for the platform during the evening rush. Evidence of the upcoming electrification is apparent. The third rail is already in place, but will not be energized for another year or so, and the structure for the signals at an interlocking yet to be built is overhead, awaiting the new position lights. The old signal is showing a stop in the distance.

Title:  Triple header
Description:  Sometimes trains would take extra power or passenger equipment to outlying terminals, rather than run an equipment train. Most of the time it was a single unit or extra coaches.
