Ive had little luck catching the new 5000 series ET44AHs in good light, in the lead. I was heading up to the transfer station with three bags full, and saw a southbound approaching the Lincoln Av crossing. I didnt like the angle there, so turned and headed for Jefferson St. I was able to get this shot of the H KCSH rolling around the curve at the crossing with a new GE in good sun. Id have chased him, but I had three bags of really stinky garbage in the back. So it goes. |

When I crossed the tracks to set up this shot, I saw the signal just to the north flashing yellow, approach medium for the next signal in downtown Decatur, which would be displaying approach. That meant a meet at Dorsey, between Decatur and Gravette. I rolled the coal train by, and waited for the southbound. |

Normally with these "out and back" series, I chase a train away from home, then another back. This day was a little different. After chasing the first grain train south, I didnt have anything to follow back. The light was getting low, and prospects were fading quickly. Then, as I came around a curve south of Watts, there was a headlight. It turned out to be this southbound, which I followed the short distance to Westville. |

I was outside working in the yard when I heard a horn, this one coming from a train working up the grade from Watts. I took off, hoping to get a few shots in the fading light. There was enough left to get to Gravette, and it started here at Tahlequah St in Siloam, an ET 44 leading the 54 stack platforms, 10 articulated auto racks, and 7 standard racks of the 181. I was glad to see the ET 44, the second time in a week, since they don't seem to show up here often. |
