Pennsylvania 1187 (H3)
Title:  Pennsylvania 1187 (H3)
Description:  The Pennsylvania Railroad’s Class R (later H3) steam locomotives became the primary mainline freight locomotive. The Altoona Shops built more than 825 between 1885 and 1898. Its 2-8-0, or “Consolidation” type wheel arrangement became the most popular design for freight locomotives across the country. The locomotive design was the first to introduce the Belpaire Firebox. Named for its inventor Alfred Belpaire, this design provided greater strength than previous designs and allowed for more space for steam, as well as more area for combustion.

PRR 2-8-0 #1251
Title:  PRR 2-8-0 #1251
Description:  As a correction to the previous description, this Consolidation is an example of a PRR Altoona shops H8b class locomotive built in 12/1909. It was rebuilt in 1919 as an H8sb. According to the Altoona shops records, it was eventually scrapped January of 1934 so this may have been one of its last photos. However the car in the photo could possibly be a 1936 Chevrolet model which puts doubt on the scrap date. Can anyone help identify the year on this car? Date listed here is approximate.
