Description:  Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5831 and #5826. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as 3,000 horsepower BP-60's for passenger service, later regeared and downgraded to 2,500 horsepower BH-50's for freight and helper service, and retired in September of 1962. #5831 was constructed in January of 1948, while #5826 was built in September of 1948. They're waiting for their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Also visible in the background (L to R) are part of the 7th Street Bridge, a conical sanding tower, a concrete coaling station, as well as portions of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops.

Description:  Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9493 and two more "FF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9493 was built in October of 1950 and retired in April of 1965. Partially visible on the right is PRR engine #5826, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September of 1948, originally rated as a 3,000 horsepower BP-60 for passenger service, later rebuilt into a 2,500 horsepower BH-50 for freight/helper/pusher service, and retired in Septemberl of 1962. All of these locomotives await their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Also visible in the background are portions of the 7th Street Bridge and the PRR's Passenger Car Shops.

Both are BP-60's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, rated at 3,000 horsepower each, and later regeared and reclassified as 2,500 horsepower BH-50's. #5833 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service.

Description:  Here is page nine of a 12-page camera study entitled "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial." It was published originally in the Winter 2004 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 40. Middle Photo, Partial Caption: "New York-to-Pittsburgh Aerotrain, in the summer of 1956." Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Centipede #5834 assisting a westbound freight up Horseshoe Curve, circa 1956." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5834 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1948; it was designed to be a 3,000 horsepower passenger locomotive (BP-60A), but was later downgraded to be a 2,500 horsepower freight and helper engine (BH-50). Description:  The photo was taken in Saltillo, Coahuila, on February 23, 1964. Lead helper unit NdeM 6403 was a DR-12-8-1500/2 and has been added ahead of two NdeM RSD12's to assist the train in the mountains. A subsequent photograph of this train appears on page 52 of NdeM in Color by Matthew J. Herson (Scotch Plains, NJ: Morning Sun Books, Inc., 2000).
