SAL E7 3041 |
Description: |
Seaboard#Air Line Railroad E7 3041 at Miami, Florida on an unknown day in November 1964, Kodachrome by Keith E. Ardinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. As best I can tell, this unit and 3040 were fitted with aluminum side panels in an experiment to reduce paint costs. I do not know if this was an original EMD application or a railroad retrofit. If anyome knows more, please leave a Comment, thanks. |

SAL E7 #3044 - Seaboard Air Line |
Description: |
Built by EMD on 7/15/1948 (serial #6152) at the La Grange, IL plant, this E7 unit seen here near the Tampa Union Station served the Seaboard Air Line well. To distinguish it from earlier E units, E7's and later models were nicknamed "bulldog nose" units rather than the "shovel nose" earlier models. Eventually the 2000 hp loco became SCL #569. Milwea M. Bottom Photo: Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5471, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in August of 1956 after 29 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling the eastbound "Trail Blazer." |

Description: |
Illinois Central E7A's 4006 and 4004 were heading out of the station, after having backed in with Train 3, the LOUISIANE. The engines were going to the engine terminal, just on the other side of the overpass in the distance, where the crew would tie up and mark off. If the train was on time, it would have gotten in at 4:55 p.m. |

NYC E7 4011 |
Description: |
NYC E7 4011 at LaSalle Street Station, Chicago, Illinois, October 31, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in April 1947 (c/n 4166) on EMD Order E751A, and became PC 4011. Given the long shadows, according to the June 1965 issue of the Official Guide, this train could be either: Train #28, the New England States, or Train #2, The Pacemaker, (both were scheduled to leave LaSalle Street at 3:00 PM CST), or perhaps Train #26, the Twentieth Century Limited, scheduled to leave at 3:30 PM CST, or Train #304, The James Whitcomb Riley, scheduled to leave at 4:00 PM CST, or Train #356, The Twilight Limited, scheduled to leave at 4:15 CST. I failed to note which train on the slide. |
