During its lifetime, Milwaukee Road #1187 has had 6 different numbers. Starting in December of 1895 when it was built by Baldwin (Burnham, Wms & Co), the loco was originally Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #829 but it didn't stay that way for long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #202, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #840, rebuilt & renumbered in 3/1913 to CMStP #2252, and finally renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1187. After serving nearly 50 years, the loco was scrapped in October of 1945. Simplified specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, modest engine wt of 132,500 lb nad modest tractive effort of 22,794 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
