Top Right Photo Caption: "R-1 4800, later renumbered, hit an authentic 120 mph on test but was not successful enough otherwise to warrant duplication." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4800, the R-1 (2-D-2) electric built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1934, rated at 5,000 horsepower, renumbered "4899" in 1934, renumbered "4999" in 1940, and retired in October of 1956. |
