PRR 4-4-4-4 #5542 - Pennsylvania RR |
| Description: |
J.R. Quinn caught this massive duplex drive PRR 4-4-4-4 #5542 built by Baldwin in July of 1946. Most of these T-1 duplex drives were retired by 1949. Sadly, this one in particular was sold for scrap in 1956. Specs - serial #72785, T-1 class, 80" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 19.5x26" cylinders, engine weight of 502,200 lb, tractive effort of 64,653 lb. J.R. Quinn photo No location or date was given. Thanks to Ben Kranefield and the PRRTHS group (see comment below), the location is the HUNT tower near Huntington, PA.
