Parked in the right foreground is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9889, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1915 and retired in October of 1958. To the left of it is engine #267, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in December of 1917 and retired in June of 1957; note that its main driving rods have been removed in preparation for movement to the Recycling Center. PRR 9889, H-10S, #1 of 3, c. 1953
Title:  PRR 9889, H-10S, #1 of 3, c. 1953
Description:  Here is the first of three original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Parked in the foreground (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6835, #9889, #267, and the tender of another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. #6835 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in March of 1957. #9889 is an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1915 and retired in October of 1958. And #267 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in December of 1917 and retired in June of 1957. Over in the Westbound Classification Yard, an unidentified Class I-1S (2-10-0) scurries about. To the left of its tender, the "Scooter" operator transports Yard Brakemen back to the top of the westbound hump at HOMER Tower (not shown at right).
