Description: |
On the night of May 18th B&P train SIBU hit a switch and entered a siding at speed causing a derailment on Main St. right in the middle of East Aurora. 15 cars of the 98 including propane tankers derailed along with all 3 locomotives, the leader 3892 taking the brunt of the damage including 1,000 gallons of spilled fuel from its ruptured fuel tank. B&P 3882 & 3883 were the other diesels involved. 40 homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. When I arrived there the next day for a few quick snaps police and homeland security were on the scene investigating. Most importantly the crew that went through that nightmare were not injured. It took several days of hard work to clean up the large mess. |

B&P derailment in East Aurora. Train hit an open switch to a siding at speed and hit the dirt derailing 15 of 98 cars on the train including propane tankers. 40 homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Thankfully the crew that went for that wild ride were not injured. The mess took several days to clean up. The department of homeland security was on the scene investigating. At the time this happened I could only speculate how this accident happened and have heard nothing since. If anyone else has some info, feel free to leave a comment. |
