PRR 8612, AS-24M, 1965 |
Description: |
Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 October 1965. The arrival of the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society's "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" was eclipsed by a really, really long westbound mixed-cargo freight train sporting rear-end pushers. Shown here is PRR engine #8612, an AS-24M built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. One of the "Excursion's" passenger cars is partially visible on the left, while Milepost 242 sits on the right. |
