UP 63 |
Description: |
UP 63 was rebuilt from UP 13 with a Sulzer prime mover and completed in October 1981. It was not a success, and nine months later the shell of UP 63 is just waiting for the end which will come in 1983. |

UP 63 |
Description: |
On June 26th, 1982, Union Pacific SD45 63 sits in pieces as it receives an overhaul at the railroads Salt Lake City diesel shops. UP SD45s 60-65 were rebuilt bz Morrison_Knudsen in Boise, Idaho, during 1980 to 1982 with Sulzer diesel engines from Switzerland as part of a test program. Look carefully at the carbody below the gaping hole in the long hood, and yiu can see where the carbody was widened by another two inches. UP 63 was built by EMD in April 1968 as UP 3613. It was later renumbered to UP 13, in October 1978. On July 8th, 1999, the engine would be renumbered once again to UP 4758. |
