PRR 337, H-9S, c. 1949 |
Description: |
Portraits 5. Here is a steam locomotive portrait by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #337, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as an H-8B during December of 1908, rebuilt as an H-9S in November of 1926, and retired in January of 1950 after 42 years of faithful service. Looks to me like this venerable workhorse is headed to the Recycling Center. (#12 of 40) (#7,300) |
