Title: |
ATSF 4-4-2 #1420 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe |
Description: |
Built by Burnham, Williams & Co (Baldwin) in 1904, it was classified according to ATSF policy of using the first loco number in the series as the class, hence class 1400. It had 79" drivers and developed an impressive 220 psi boiler pressure. As one of the lucky ones in the class to not be scrapped in the 1920's, it was rebuilt by the ATSF shops in 1926-29. The rebuilt group lasted through the 1930's with the last one being scrapped in 1948. Forrest Trittenbach photo. Date is approximate. |
