"Horseshoe Curve Pictorial," Page 42, 2004
Title:  "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial," Page 42, 2004
Description:  Here is page 11 of a 12-page camera study entitled "Horseshoe Curve Pictorial." It was published originally in the Winter 2004 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 42. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "PC (ex-PRR) snappers U-25c #6511 and SD-35 #6032 earning their keep on a westbound freight ascending Horseshoe Curve on March 2, 1969." Both "snappers" were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. Penn Central engine #6511 was built by General Electric, but #6032 was built by GM-EMD. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Here, a mixed lashup of six diesels descends while one of the Pennsy's 'patented' mail and express trains (with a few coaches thrown in at the end) climbs westbound with EMD passenger units in charge. June 1966." The last of the six eastbound diesels is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9829, an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. Both photos by Ken Murry.
